Seattle will welcome one of hip-hop’s upcoming stars next week, and he’s not coming alone.
Wiz Khalifa will play the WaMu Theater at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. For the show, he’ll bring his crew in tow: Juicy J, Chevy Woods, Lola Monroe and more.
Khalifa topped the charts in 2010 with a track that nodded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, “Black and Yellow.” He’s now getting ready to release his sophomore album for Atlantic Records, “O.N.I.F.C.,” which saw its release date postponed from late summer to Dec. 4.
Expect to hear tracks from that upcoming record, along with hit singles like “Roll Up” and “On My Level,” when he plays here. Also expect some sort of mention of the election, which, of course, will have concluded the night before.
Tickets are $54.55 at ticketmaster.com or 800-745-3000.
On a significantly different note, Cat Power will play the Showbox SoDo at 8 p.m. Saturday as she tours behind her new album, “Sun.”
Cat Power — who sometimes goes by her actual name, Chan Marshall — has been kicking around the indie scene for well more than a decade, slowly and steadily building her loyal following.
Her latest record has won acclaim from all corners, with hipster websites like Pitchfork.com and staid publications like Time magazine all praising its spare indie folk.
Fans seem to agree: The album debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200.
Tickets for the show are $29.50 at showboxonline.com or 888-929-7849.
Finally, a string of shows will take place at the Showbox at the Market starting at 8 p.m. tonight, when the post-grunge act Blue October headlines the venue.
The Texas quintet formed in 1996, but didn’t break into the mainstream until it released the angst-ridden track “Hate Me” a full decade later.
The group has built on that success, seeing successive albums crack the Billboard top 20, although it has yet to produce another true hit single. The band is now touring behind its 2011 album, “Any Man in America.”
Tickets are $30 at showboxonline.com or 888-929-7849.
Next up at the venue is a sold-out show from the indie rock band the Afghan Whigs at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The guitar-driven group is now playing the reunion tour circuit — they originally disbanded in 2001, but got back together this year, announcing a stop at Lollapalooza in the summer and a run of club dates in the fall.
Many of those shows have sold out. If you want to catch the band’s stop here, your safest bet may be buying tickets at a mark-up at stubhub.com.
Finally, Stars will play the Showbox at the Market at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Toronto-based indie pop band released in September its well-received new album “The North,” which features epic, New Order-esque tracks such as “Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It.”
Tickets are $26 at showboxonline.com or 888-929-7849.
