Quintessence is a new recorder quintet that features founder Vicki Boeckman, Silke Harper, Laura Faber, Sabine Endrigkeit and Mike Woolf. The group will perform Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood.
The concert will feature the whole family of recorders from soprano to contra bass in a program that includes a concerto by J. B. Boismortier for five alto recorders, some motets from the Lerma Collection by Phillipe Rugier and Francesco Guerrero -- played on the largest instruments of the recorder family -- a few dances by Anthony Holborne, a trio by Steve Larson and a piece called "Rondelli" by Hans Ulrich Staeps.
Also on the program will be a sonata for recorder and piano by Hans Ulrich Staeps, and a trio sonata by J. S. Bach.
Boeckman has been performing and teaching recorder for almost 30 years. She is often a featured soloist with the Seattle Baroque Orchestra and the Medieval Women's Choir. She is director for the Port Townsend Early Music Workshop, sponsored by the Seattle Recorder Society, according to her biography.
Lynnwood locals may recognize Silke Harper's name.
Harper is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Chancel Choir and has played regularly for services and concerts in churches in the area for a number of years.
The concert will also feature Trinity's organist, Norma Aamondt-Nelson, along with Seattle cellist, Lee Inman and pianist Dawn Corl.
Quintessence will play at 7 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.
Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information call 425-778-2159 or go to www.trinitylutheranchurch.com/.
