Centennial Trail
The opening of the new north trailhead of the Centennial Trail is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department's Nakashima Heritage Barn, 32328 Highway 9, north of Arlington.
After the ribbon-cutting, the Centennial Trail is then officially open to bikers, hikers and horse riders. It stretches from Snohomish County's border with Skagit County line south to the Snohomish River.
Many of the people instrumental in the 30-year effort to build the trail plan to attend the celebration.
The Nakashima family donated property to the county for the trailhead and parking lot.
Bobcat lore: Sarvey Wildlife Center's Kestrel Skyhawk will speak about the elusive bobcat tonight at the Northwest Stream Center.
Skyhawk plans share stories of rehabilitating a bobcats and display rare photos about the predators in the wilds of Washington state.
The bobcat program is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in McCollum Park at the NW Stream Center; 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Registration is required by calling 425-316-8592. Admission is $5 for Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 for nonmembers.

It's a bug's life: A naturalist with IslandWood, a nonprofit learning center on Bainbridge Island, plans to give a presentation Saturday on the life of bugs using bug boxes, microscopes, nets and buckets.
The event is planned from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the at the Brightwater Center, 22505 Highway 9 SE, Woodinville. It's perfect for kids of all ages. Bring rubber boots. Register by calling 206-263-8866.
