OLYMPIA -- The Thurston County sheriff’s office says a deputy shot and killed a man who was swinging a pool cue at another deputy.
It happened about 2:30 a.m. Friday at a home in Littlerock, where deputies had tracked a suspect from an attempted break-in at the Littlerock Grocery Store.
Lt. Greg Elwin told The Olympian that the man’s mother came out of the house and confronted deputies. He said they were in the process of briefly detaining her when the 26-year-old came out of the house swinging a pool cue.
Elwin said a Taser was ineffective and a deputy fell.
Elwin said the suspect was preparing to hit the deputy in the head with a pool cue when another deputy fired.
The Olympian said Keith Miles was pronounced dead at an Olympia hospital.
County Coroner Gary Warnock said an autopsy is planned Monday.
The deputy who fired has been placed on paid administrative leave.
