Election guide

As you sit down with your ballot, check online at www.heraldnet.com/electionguide for profiles on the candidates and stories on the issues.

The election is Tuesday and Washington voters will decide who will be the next governor, whether to permit gay marriages and whether marijuana will be legalized. Stories on all of these races and dozens of others are already posted online.

On Election Day, Tuesday, follow all the state and local races with Herald journalists at www.HeraldNet.com. We'll be live blogging all day, with the first Snohomish County results expected shortly after 8 p.m.



Two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo is scheduled to sign autographs and pose for pictures from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p..m. on Saturday at the new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Lynnwood, 17222 Highway 99.

Solo, who attended the University of Washington, is the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. women's national soccer team. She recorded three shutouts during the team's run to the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.

In 2011, Solo participated in "Dancing with the Stars." She recently released her autobiography, Solo: A Memoir of Hope.



The Veterans of Foreign Wars of Everett plans a dinner event to mark Veterans Day starting at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at its post at 2711 Oakes Ave.

There will be a meet-and-greet, followed by a speech by Command Master Chief Joshua Dugan of Naval Station Everett at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will follow; cost is free to veterans, $8 for ages 11 and older and $4 for ages 10 and younger.

RSVP by Wednesday to 425-252-2100, and let organizers know if you are a veteran in need of a ride to the event. There will be free parking at the back of the post.
