SPOKANE — The Everett Silvertips completed their brutal stretch of four games in five nights Saturday night.
And the Tips ran out of gas.
Everett put up little resistance as they fell 5-0 to the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday.
Saturday's game ended a stretch where Everett faced the top four teams in the WHL's Western Conference in five days in four different cities. The Tips lost all four and have now dropped five straight.
Eric Williams stopped all 26 shots he faced in goal for Spokane (12-6-0-0), which didn't suffer despite the absence of leading scorer Mitch Holmberg because of injury. Connor Chartier, Collin Valcourt, Adam Helewka, Todd Fiddler and Brenden Kichton scored the goals for the Chiefs.
Austin Lotz, who started in goal for Everett (6-11-0-2) in all four games of the stretch, stopped 14 of the 18 shots he faced before being hooked midway through the second period. Daniel Cotton stopped 13 of 14 in relief.
Everett was once again without its top two scoring forwards, winger Joshua Winquist (mononucleosis) and center Manraj Hayer (upper body), because of physical ailments. It was the third time the Tips were shut out this season.
Spokane jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to a pair of rebound goals. Chartier got the first one 3 minutes into the game, then Walchuk doubled Spokane's lead at 17:05.
The Chiefs then added to their lead early in the second. Helewka made it 3-0 at 4:28 when he came away from the boards with the puck and had a free lane to goal. Fiddler made it 4-0 at 7:41 with a shot through traffic during a four-on-three power play, sending Lotz to the bench in favor of Cotton.
Spokane completed the scoring with another power-play goal 2:10 into the third period, Kichton scoring on a shot from the point.
