EVERETT -- Firefighters with Everett's Local 46 again are offering free help getting rid of campaign signs in city limits.
Starting Wednesday, people can bring signs to the union hall parking lot at 2411 Hewitt Ave., where the union has a large trash bin available, Vice President John Gage said.
Off-duty firefighters also will pick up signs throughout main corridors, president Paul Gagnon said. The idea is to collect signs that the union put out, but they'll also pick up signs for candidates the union didn't support as well.
Individual candidates can ask that their signs be set aside for them to collect or tossed. They also can opt out of the service.
The pick-up tradition is meant to be a sign of good will after the election, Gagnon said.
The firefighters only can pick up smaller "yard-sized" signs, not large framed ones, Gagnon said.
Any signs set aside at the union hall need to be picked up before Nov. 13 or they will be tossed.
