LACEY -- Stanwood fell short of its goal to play on the second day, but the Spartans didn't go down without a fight. After winning the first set 25-20 over Mercer Island, Stanwood was tied with the Islanders 22-22 in the second set but the Spartans gave up three straight points and lost the set.

"I couldn't be more proud of the girls and their level of play especially in the second match," said Stanwood head coach Erik Titus. "We played well but not well enough to come away with a win. While it is difficult to know that your season is over and fall just a bit short of reaching our goal, I know that this team has laid a strong foundation for Stanwood volleyball teams in the future to return to State and compete at a high level."
