Courtney Moss of Marysville Getchell makes one of her final dives at the state swim meet at the King County Aquatic center Saturday. Moss took 13th in state with a score of 271.35.
"(Winning back-to-back) gives me an opportunity to go for three straight as a senior and be automatically inducted into the WIAA Hall of Fame," said Keane.
Keane swam the 50 in 23.36 seconds and the 100 in 50.60, winning the 50 by over six-tenths of a second and the 100 by over three-tenths at the King County Aquatics Center on Saturday. Both times granted her National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association All-America honors, which mark the top 100 swimmers in the country for that event.
Like last year, Keane posted the fastest time in the 50 during preliminaries, but Columbia River's Monica Bottelberghe edged Keane by sixteen-hundredths in the 100.
"I was really worried," said Keane about her 100 preliminary performance. "I know Monica is good competition. I had a bad breakout and knew if I fixed it I could go faster."
Keane made the right adjustments and cut her time by almost six-tenths. Her coach, Kati Girard, wasn't surprised.
"She has a pretty good mindset of what she wants to do," said Girard. "She walks in there and puts it together, she doesn't need me to babysit her."
Keane also helped the Mavericks 200 medley relay team place sixth and the 400 freestyle team finish fifth.
Marysville Pilchuck's Hannah Taylor and Oak Harbor's Emily Huffer earned second place finishes in individual events. Taylor finished with a time of 56.15, three-tenths behind Mercer Island's Sabrina Kwan, but good enough for All-America Consideration. Huffer also earned All-American Consideration with her time of 56.23 in the 100 backstroke. Shayla Archer of Bainbridge won the event at 56.18.
Mercer Island won the team title with 376 points. Meadowdale, the highest Wesco finisher, was sixth with 100 and Shorewood, buoyed by fourth place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, was seventh, one point behind the Mavericks.
