Bill Brayer, founder and former CEO of MS Helping Hands-MSHH and the MSHH Donor Closet, received a proclamation from Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling for his many years of advocating for and providing services and resources to people with multiple sclerosis who reside in Washington. Brayer has had multiple sclerosis symptoms for more than 59 years and was officially diagnosed in 1987.
Coldwell Banker Bain has added real estate broker Michele Harps to the Edmonds office. Harps returns to real estate after owning and operating a home staging business from 2004-11. She was a broker with Windermere from 1993 to 2005.

Seattle Business magazine has honored Stevens Pass Mountain Resort as the winner of the Recreation Category and member of the exclusive Green 50 list of 50 outstanding sustainable organizations across the state. In the past few years the resort has been recognized by a number of state, national and industry organizations for exemplary environmental performance.
Harbour Pointe Retirement &Assisted Living Center has been accorded a perfect score from the state Department of Social and Health Services. The facility has been serving the Mukilteo community for 12 years. According to Executive Director Ann Struthers, very few retirement communities receive a perfect score.

This month, Mill Creek business owners are partnering with Clothes For Kids to encourage customers to donate change to help meet the clothing needs of low-income children in Snohomish County. Participating businesses include Run 26, Bella Cleaners, Celsius Salon, Z Ultimate Defense Studios and Reigning Imagination Toys.
Snoqualmie Ice Cream is kicking off its annual fire station drops in Snohomish and King counties. The company brings 24 seasonal pints to more than 60 fire stations in the two counties every year. The business is hand-delivering pints this month.
SkillUp Washington, a Seattle-based organization that supports workforce development training, has been awarded a $750,000 from the Boeing Co. to help low-skilled adults launch manufacturing careers. The three-year grant, called the Manufacturing Advancement Pathways Project, will help students at Shoreline, Renton Tech, South Seattle and Everett community colleges complete training and find employment.

Everett Community College is celebrating International Education Week this week with an international festival, with a fashion show, dance performances, a student panel discussion, a cooking demonstration, information about studying abroad and more. More than 290 international students from 25 countries attend the college.
The grand opening of the new Volunteers of America food bank in Mill Creek is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The food bank, at Jackson High School, began as a joint effort of the Mill Creek Rotary Club and concerned students to provide food assistance for families of teens attending the high school. Donated cake and refreshments will be provided.
Mountlake Terrace citizens, business owners and others from the community are invited to join city officials for a cup of coffee and to hear what’s happening in the city. Last Monday, the City of Mountlake Terrace posted a notice that the Ballinger Lake Golf Course and clubhouse is closed. Hardy Golf has signed a lease agreement to operate the golf course through 2015 but is said to be in default of the lease agreement. Once the legal issues have been addressed, options for operating the golf course will be developed.
The Snohomish County PUD has issued $55.6 million in tax-exempt bonds, which are to save customers $11 million over the life of the bonds and an average of $700,000 in interest cost per year. The PUD sells tax-exempt bonds to finance a portion of capital expenditures.
Effective Nov. 19, the Everett and Lynnwood Social Security offices will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — a reduction of 30 minutes each day. Beginning Jan. 2, the offices will close at noon on Wednesdays.
A new report reveals that maritime-related air pollution in metropolitan Puget Sound has decreased over the past six years — in some cases by as much as 40 percent — including at the Port of Everett. The report was issued by the Puget Sound Maritime Air Forum, a voluntary association of private and public maritime organizations and government agencies.
About 200 randomly selected Washington aircraft owners are being asked to participate in a routine, internal audit of the state’s aircraft registration program. WSDOT Aviation requested the internal audit to ensure that the aircraft registration program continues to be transparent and accountable. Most general-aviation aircraft in Washington are required to register with the Washington State Department of Transportation.
