Regular Pepsi: PepsiCo Inc., has announced its plans to sell Pepsi with a fat-blocking fiber called dextrin to consumers in Japan. The new soft drink, called Pepsi Special, is thought to reduce fat levels in blood.
If you’re concerned about the taste and texture of Pepsi Special, just do what the Japanese do: Top it with wasabi and dip it in soy sauce.
On the rocks: Researchers in Alaska are studying a frozen gas that looks like ice but could be used as a source of energy. The scientists are studying how to easily free methane from methane hydrate, an icelike structure.
So in addition to your choice of regular or premium gas when you fill up, you’ll also need to choose between block or crushed.
Today’s special, Lou burgers: A Vermont college that euthanized an ox from its working farm because it was lame and not responding to treatments has upset some students and animal rights activists for electing to have the ox butchered and served in the college dining hall. Using Lou the ox as food would be in keeping with the college’s emphasis on sustainable agricultural, officials said.
Recognizing that naming the ox was part of the problem, the college said it has stopped naming animals on the farm, and that goes for the billions of lactobacillus delbrueckii bulgaricus bacteria in the dining hall’s yogurt.
