TACOMA — A missing 16-year-old girl described as a special education student with the mental capacity of a 9-year-old was last seen at a Tacoma bowling alley with a 21-year-old sex offender, police said.
Briana Troyer is the daughter of Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer and he’s very concerned, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
Briana Troyer was at Tower Bowling Lanes with other members of the Wilson High School bowling team for practice, but the coach or supervisor may not have been there at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when she disappeared, Fulghum said.
She was last seen walking away with Terrence D. Powell. Fulghum issued an Amber Alert early Wednesday for the girl.
Fulghum did not know the criminal history that led to Powell’s listing as a Level 1 sex offender. The classification is the lowest level and applied to people, many of them first-time offenders, considered at minimal risk to reoffend.
Troyer is white, 5-foot-2, 105 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a Wilson High School bowling shirt and hooded Wilson sweat shirt and blue jeans. Powell is black, 5-foot-9, 220 pounds with short hair dyed blond.
Police searched around the bowling alley with dogs and went door to door nearby, Fulghum said. Detectives also checked Powell’s home and he was not there.
