Boeing adding on in Everett for Dreamlifter, 787 work
Opening in 2013 will be an operations center for Boeing's Dreamlifter and a new jet delivery center.

If you've driven by the Boeing Co. in Everett or Paine Field lately, you've likely seen construction.
What's being built there?
The most easily spotted construction is along the Mukilteo Speedway near the Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour. That's where an operations center for Boeing's fleet of 747 large-cargo freighters will be.
The aircraft, dubbed the Dreamlifter, ferries major sections of Boeing 787s around the world. The jet maker has a fleet of four of the bloated-looking 747s, which will be based out of the new $25 million Dreamlifter operations center.
Snohomish County is building the facility; Boeing will lease the roughly 30,000-square-foot center from the county, said Dave Waggoner, director of Paine Field.
A construction crew currently is grading the site for the Dreamlifter operations center, which cost about $3 million to design.
Waggoner expects the center to be open by late next summer.
The other major construction project you might spot is Boeing's new jet delivery center. Boeing broke ground on the new 180,000-square-foot delivery center in March. The old delivery center, which opened in 1969, was the site of 3,500 deliveries.
With increased aircraft production, Boeing officials decided they needed a larger facility that could handle more deliveries.
Boeing spokeswoman Elizabeth Fischtziur said the new delivery center is about 50 percent complete. Boeing expects to open the new airplane delivery center early next year.
