Red Cross taking donations for Everett fire victims
The Red Cross continues to provide aid to the victims of the Nov. 8 fire at the historic McCrossen Building, just west of Comcast Arena.
The building was destroyed, with a damage estimate at $1 million. Michael D. Beard, 61, died from smoke inhalation.
Since the fire, the Red Cross has provided shelter, comfort kits, food and blankets as well as financial assistance for clothing, shoes and medication. Forty people were displaced by the fire.
Workers coordinated with the manager of the building to help relocate residents to other available units or refund rent and deposits.
Volunteer counselors have continued to be available for residents by making contact by telephone.
The agency also has referred the displaced tenants to other nonprofit organizations for essential household items, a need that will be ongoing as families move into available housing.
