November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month. As an organization founded by caregivers, the Alzheimer's Association applauds caregivers and aims to ease the challenge of caregiving through our programs and services. We facilitate more than 100 support groups, conduct education workshops, and offer Early Stage Memory Loss programs. We provide care consultation and a toll-free 24/7 Helpline (1-800-272-3900).

Caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease shoulder a particularly heavy burden. The care they provide is physically and emotionally demanding, time-consuming, and takes a heavy toll on work and family life.

In Washington State there are over 150,000 people living with Alzheimer's and more than 350,000 unpaid caregivers. These numbers are expected to double by 2025 and triple by 2050, as we don't yet have a cure or treatment to stop the progression of the disease. The Alzheimer's Association continues to assist individuals and families in a variety of ways, but many who could benefit from our services don't yet know who we are, where to find us, or how we can help them on their journeys with Alzheimer's and other dementias.
