Rising seas

Let's put our coal to work for us

In response to Eugene Robinson's Nov. 6 column about meeting the challenge of a rising sea. Instead of selling our coal to China and contributing to the creation of hurricanes like Katrina, Irene and "super storm" Sandy, we need to keep our coal and turn it into the sea walls we are going to need to keep our east coast above water. We have created the technology to quickly compress coal into diamonds, which is one of the hardest surfaces on the earth which would be perfect for flood wall construction. Plus, we won't have to ship it so far and it can all be American made.
It's not just about the trains. It's about the consequences of the freight. If we contribute to the problem, we might as well start naming each coal car after a deadly storm.
