LAKE STEVENS -- A suspected drunken-driver nearly ran down a trooper early Tuesday morning along Highway 204, just east of the U.S. 2 trestle.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. Chris Caiola was assisting with a disabled vehicle there just after 12:30 a.m., trooper Keith Leary said.

As the other car passed, the passenger side mirror swiped Caiola's elbow, Leary said. Caiola wasn't seriously injured.

Caiola got into his patrol car and pulled over the driver a short ways away.

A Bellingham woman, 23, was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of driving under the influence.
