ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Monitors have lowered the alert level for a remote volcano in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory said Wednesday that Cleveland Volcano was lowered to yellow, which means unrest is elevated but decreasing.
Observatory scientists say no explosions have been detected since Nov. 10. A small ash cloud was detected that day, prompting the observatory to raise the level to orange, which means a volcano is exhibiting heightened or escalating unrest or that an eruption is under way with minor ash emissions.
Cleveland Volcano is a 5,675-foot peak on an uninhabited island 940 miles southwest of Anchorage.
The volcano observatory says additional eruptions are still possible with little warning, and ash clouds 20,000 feet above sea level are possible.
