SPOKANE — The Everett Silvertips’ Spokane Arena curse lives on.
Everett dropped its 13th straight game in Spokane, losing 3-1 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.
It’s been more than two full seasons since the Tips last tasted victory in Spokane. The last time Everett won at Spokane Arena was Feb. 24, 2010, when the Tips prevailed 2-1.
Todd Fiddler scored twice and Reid Gow also scored for Spokane (16-7-0-0). Gow’s goal early in the third period snapped a 1-1 tie. Garret Hughson earned the win in goal for the Chiefs with 20 saves.
Trent Lofthouse scored the lone goal for Everett (9-15-0-2). Daniel Cotton stopped 35 shots in net for the Tips.
The Tips at least found the net this time. Everett was shut out in its two previous games in Spokane this season.
Neither team found the net in the first period as both goaltenders played well. Cotton in particular made a number of big saves, denying Mitch Holmberg on a breakaway and Dylan Walchuk all alone in front.
The Chiefs began the second on the power play and converted just 57 seconds into the period. Kohl Bauml blocked a Chiefs shot, but the puck bounced right to Fiddler, who scored with Cotton stranded to give Spokane a 1-0 lead.
Everett finally scored its first goal of the season in Spokane on the power play 1:46 into the second period, Lofthouse backhanding a rebound under Hughson to knot the game 1-1.
But Spokane wasted little time regaining its lead as Gow scored with a shot off the rush at 4:41 to make it 2-1.
The Chiefs polished it off when Fiddler scored into an empty net with 57 seconds remaining.
