Plant of Merit: Boskoop Glory Japanese maple
Branches sweep down in layers and the new leaves are burgundy in color, changing to bronze as the season moves into summer and finally bright red/orange in the fall.
It is a spectacular focal point in any residential garden, either as a stand alone tree or against a background of evergreens.
SUN OR SHADE: Boskoop Glory is very tolerant of sun, a quality that many other Japanese maples do not share. When this tree is in its fall color, and is situated in a sunny location, it is an extraordinary sight.
SIZE: At 20 by 30 feet, it is an excellent choice for residential gardens.
SEE IT: At the Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett; in the Small Urban Tree Walk adjacent to the parking lot. For more information, see our virtual photo tour on www.evergreenarboretum.com or call 425-257-8597.
