Accused deputy shooter now faces federal charges

BOISE, Idaho -- A convicted felon accused of shooting two southern Idaho deputies last month now faces additional federal charges because he was forbidden to have a gun.
U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson announced that Kyle Alan Batt, 27, was arrested on the federal unlawful firearm possession charges on Friday.
He's accused of wounding two Canyon County Sheriff's deputies Oct. 23 during a shootout at a Caldwell home where they were trying to arrest him on separate aggravated-assault charges.
He's forbidden from possessing a firearm because he'd previously convicted in 2004 of drug charges.
Batt, who was shot in one of his legs and reportedly shot himself in the face in the Oct. 23 incident, has been recuperating in a physical rehabilitation center in Boise.
He's a distant relative of former Idaho Gov. Phil Batt.
