Our future

Might we try working together?

Regarding the Nov. 17 letter, "Four more years of 'freebies'": I'd like to know what country the writer was living in four years ago. What I remember was we were fighting two wars on borrowed money. The banks were going under, the auto industry was going under, And unemployment was growing.

When the wars started 10 years ago, taxes should have been raised to pay for them at that time. Not a tax cut for everyone. Now no one wants to be taxed to pay for them.

Why not get behind our president and Congress and make smart decisions to get us out of this mess? Everyone needs to pay their fair share. Not just sit and whine about the mess we're in.

I don't know why we should deny people free health care if they're sick and unable to work. Help them get well so they can work and start paying taxes.

And as for abortion, since one-half of pregnancies are unplanned, let's make contraception free and the abortion rate drops to practically nothing.

The majority of people want to work and provide for their families. Let's change the attitude and we'll all be more productive and get things done by working together.
