There's a mere 150 recipes in cookbook author Jess Thompson's newest endeavor, "Dishing Up Washington."
Thompson did not include all 365 recipes (one a day) she created for her "big project" in 2007. Thompson's blog fans could follow her through the year as she wrote (and we assume) cooked a new dish every day.
Much like Julie Powell (you know, from the movie "Julie & Julia") who blogged as she plowed her way through Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking," Thompson struggled and almost gave up several times, but she finished.
Since then, Thompson has written three cookbooks: "Top Pot Hand-Forged Doughnuts: Secrets and Recipes for the Home Baker" in 2011, "Pike Place Market Recipes, released in May, and the just-released "Dishing Up Washington."
Thompson will be signing her new book from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at J. Matheson's, and Judy Matheson will be dishing up samples from the cookbook that she's preparing.
"Dishing" recipes are signature ingredients from Washington: salmon, Dungeness crab, as well as cherries, apples, wild mushrooms Yukon gold potatoes and much more.
The book's also rife with full-color photography and profiles of Northwest chefs, farmers and artisanal food producers.
"Dishing Up Washington lists at $19.95.
J. Matheson Gifts, Kitchen and Gourmet is at 2615 Colby Ave., Everett. Call 425-258-2287 or go to www.jmatheson.com/ with questions about the signing.
