ALBANY -- Linn County sheriff's deputies say both people aboard a small plane died when the aircraft crashed east of Albany, Ore.

The victims were not immediately identified.

The Oregon Transportation Department said debris from the Monday afternoon crash closed state Highway 226 south of Scio until about 8:30 p.m.

KGW-TV reported that the Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was an RV-6 single-engine plane. An RV-6 is a 2-seat home-built aircraft constructed from a kit.

The plane crashed in a field in a rural residential area about nine miles east of Albany in the Willamette Valley.
