SEATTLE -- Seattle police say detectives shot and injured a 22-year-old man who fired into a crowd outside a nightclub early Sunday and later pointed the gun at officers.

Police spokesman Jeff Kappel says the man was taken to Harborview Medical Center for injuries described as not life-threatening. Police say he will be booked into King County Jail when he is released from the hospital.

Gang detectives were on scene as people were leaving a South Lake Union nightclub just before 2 a.m. Three detectives confronted the suspect after he fired into the crowded parking lot and fled the scene. Two detectives fired, striking the man.

No officers were injured. A 26-year-old man who said he was struck by gunfire was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, a standard procedure.
