50 years ago (1962)
Jack and Margaret Thomson of Loggers Service Supply, 2503 Hewitt Ave., won a Motorola television set from Oregon Saw Chain "profits plus" sales contest sponsored by Omark Industries of Portland. The Thomsons' firm had been in business since 1956 and sold a complete range of logging and mill supplies.
Edward M. Eggert, son of Grace Eggert, 1902 Rockefeller Ave., enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the guaranteed aviation program and was now undergoing basic training in San Diego. Upon completion of that he would be assigned to Memphis, Tenn., for formal schooling.
25 years ago (1987)
John Van Dyke of Everett was Metro's bus operator of the year. A driver in Seattle neighborhoods, such as Capitol Hill and Rainier Village, he had received a batch of honors, including and handsome ring, a trip for two to Canada, a reserved parking space and some extra days off. Van Dyke said loved his job.
Action Autoparts, 9220 Evergreen Way, invited shoppers to compare because their low prices spoke for themselves. Their ad included a coupon for cable chains. The offer for passenger car application was just $27.97.
