Firefighters dig out elderly horses stuck in mud
Sharon MacFarlane tells The Oregonian the mud was in a strip left after a drainage pipe was buried at her place northeast of Oregon City.
On Monday, the horses stepped in the mud, couldn't get out and panicked.
MacFarlane says she called 911. The firefighters dug away the mud.
One horse, 27-year-old mare named Shaia, was able to get out herself. Firefighters tied ropes around the legs of the other, a 30-year-old gelding named Dillon, and pulled him out.
Both got exams and medication for soreness. Dillon was given intravenous electrolytes.
