I so enjoyed Julie Muhlstein's Wednesday column, "Back to its former glory," about the Howard S. Wright house in Everett. My mother-in-law lived in that house as a tenant in the upstairs front apartment from 1973 to 1980, when it was owned by Arthur Hopkins. It was slowly going downhill then, but every time I went in there, as run down as it was, you could sense the grandeur which once had been.
I can't tell you how happy I felt when I noticed about five years ago that they were going to restore it and not raze it to the ground.
Thank heaven for Bill Belshaw, Historic Everett, and others like them who have a reverence for "the old," which is not popular with our present-day "throw-away society." These old buildings are gems, and once they are gone, they're gone forever. Thank you, Mr. Belshaw. Every time I drive by that house, it makes my day!
