Prep girls basketball: Burlington-Edison 50, Archbishop Murphy 30

BURLINGTON — BURLINGTON — Archbishop Murphy senior post Beth Carlson scored 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and five steals, but it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats fell 50-30 to Burlington-Edison in the season opener for both teams.

Carlson’s 13 points came off of 4 of 10 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Other than Carlson, the rest of the Archbishop Murphy squad struggled from the field, shooting just 8-for-31 (26%) including 1-for-6 from three-point range.

Burlington-Edison was led by Mariah Swanson, who led all scorer’s with 19 points. Sydney Brown added 12 points for Burlington-Edison.

The Wildcats held the early 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored by the Tigers 41-19 the rest of the way, including being held to just two points in the game’s final period.

The Wildcats also committed 23 turnovers throughout the game, which helped the Tigers take control of the game.

Adding to Carlson’s scoring output, Archbishop Murphy’s Madison Pollock added eight points, three steals and two assists. Anna Maher made the Wildcats’ lone three-point field goal of the night, while adding three steals to go along with her three rebounds.
