50 years ago (1962)

Peter Jinneman of Snohomish displayed a violin he recently finished and the top for another in the making. The completed instrument featured an experimental cedar top while the other was of conventional spruce. He was working on his fourth instrument of the year.

McCoy Creek Bridge, on the Ben Howard Road about a mile southwest of Sultan, would be closed all day tomorrow, it was announced today by the county engineer's office. Logs, which had been a part of the original bridge since it was built, would be replaced by stringers. New timbers were necessary as one of the old ones broke recently.



25 years ago (1987)

Everett and Alderwood mall shoppers were in a mixed spending mood this holiday season. Some were cautious about their spending, while others were throwing caution to the wind. Lyna Feldman of Everett said she was definitely not spending as much this year. Laurie Greenough of Everett found herself spending more.

The state's vehicle emission control program might be extended as far north as Everett, officials indicated this week. Parts of south Snohomish County were already covered under the program. There was a testing station in Lynnwood.
