Everett: Fire district will have opening
Snohomish County Fire District 1 is seeking applicants to fill an upcoming vacancy on the board of commissioners.
Commissioner Millie Judge is leaving at the end of the year, after being elected to the Snohomish County Superior Court bench.
The board will appoint someone to fill Judge’s spot until the next commissioners’ election in fall 2013. Whoever is appointed could run in that election.
The board sets the fire district’s long-term goals, approves budgets and establishes policies. Applicants must live in the district’s boundaries in unincorporated areas between Everett and the Snohomish-King county line.

Lake Stevens: Firefighter fundraiser
Lake Stevens firefighters plan a community fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Ixtapa restaurant along 91st Ave NE.
The firefighters will act as hosts and any tips they collect go toward Christmas presents for children served by the Lake Stevens Family Center.
The fundraiser is organized by the firefighters Local 3235. It has raised more than $36,000 over the past 8 years.
There also will be fire vehicles on scene to collect donations of unwrapped children’s gifts.
Lynnwood: School to present two short plays
The Meadowdale High School Players present a double feature, “Long Ago and Far Away” by David Ives and “The Real Inspector Hound” by Tom Stoppard, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Dec. 7 in the school’s Black Box Theater, 6002 168th St. in Lynnwood.
Tickets are $7, $5 for students, at the door. Concessions will be available at intermission.
Snohomish: City approves budget
Snohomish has adopted its 2013 budget. The budget calls for hiring one full-time employee to city staff as well as three summer workers, and does not increase property taxes.
Last week, the Snohomish City Council unanimously approved the $33.3 million total city budget that hires one city clerk and the three temporary workers to help maintain parks, streets and buildings. The budget also includes a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment for the 49 city employees.
In a second vote, the council rejected a proposal to increase the property tax by 1 percent, which would have brought $10,600 in additional revenue.
