Prep girls basketball: Snohomish 55, Marysville Pilchuck 44

SNOHOMISH -- After scoring just 16 points in the first half, the Snohomish girls basketball team worked through some opening night jitters to put up 39 points after halftime and beat Marysville Pilchuck in a nonleague game.
"We had some nerves in the first half," said Snohomish head coach Ken Roberts. "I thought the girls executed better and got better shots in the second half."
One of those players who Roberts said was "real nervous early" but finished strong was Madeline Smith. The freshman forward scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Panthers outscored the Tomahawks 21-8 in the final period.
Missing four-year starting point guard Morgan Green due to a soccer injury and struggling with turnovers, Callie Harwood was pretty much the only offense for Snohomish in the first two quarters. The junior forward scored eight points, exactly half of Snohomish's offense, before halftime.
"(Harwood) carried us in the first half," said Roberts. "She kept us in the game."
The Tommies were lead by Abi Otto's 15 points, with 10 of those coming from the free throw line.
"They're a tough team to match up, they have a lot of tall kids," said Roberts.
Amanda Kalab added 14 points for the Marysville Pilchuck.
