How about Sulu?

Not boldly going after all: Actor William Shatner, commander of the fictional starship Enterprise of the "Star Trek" TV and film series will not be attending the retirement ceremony of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise on Saturday in Norfolk, Va., as originally planned.

His publicist said Shatner had to "rework his schedule," which means Capt. Kirk either has a "negotiation session" with the bikini-clad Rigelian trade ambassador, or he can no longer squeeze into his Starfleet uniform.

Attention, Donald Trump: The southeastern European nation of Bulgaria is eager to bolster flagging foreign investment and has hit on a novel way to encourage capital: It's offering citizenship to those willing to invest $650,000 in a business there.

Those still looking for a new country following Barack Obama's re-election might want to keep looking. Yes, Bulgaria has the lowest personal and corporate tax rates in the European Union, but -- and here's the deal-breaker -- it has universal health care.

Don't know much about history: On this day in 1862 President Abraham Lincoln, in an annual message to Congress, called for the abolition of slavery, saying that "in giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free" (Today in History, below).

Lincoln's words eventually inspired Congress to act and pass the 13th Amendment. Historians still aren't certain how this was done without a soaring soundtrack by John Williams.
