The Snohomish County Family Caregiver Support Program plans a free, six-week course, "Powerful Tools for Caregivers," to run 1:30-4 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 16-Feb. 20. Classes will be held at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington.
Unpaid family caregivers will be taught skills needed to better care for themselves while caring for others. Caregivers will learn self-care tools to reduce personal stress, communicate their needs effectively in challenging situations, deal with difficult emotions and make tough caregiving decisions.

Adopt a dog: More than 100 dogs and puppies from seven rescue and shelter organizations will be available for adoption at an event called "A Home for the Holidays Adoption Event." The adoption is scheduled from 12 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Academy of Canine Behavior, at 4705 240th Street SE, Bothell. Directions can be found at www.aocb.com/contact.
All dogs -- with a mix of breeds and ages -- are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Adoption fees range from $150 - $250 for dogs and puppies. For more information, go to www.AnimalAllianceWA.org.
Students to dance for food bank:
Eight Glacier Peak High School students and teachers are putting on their dancing shoes to help the Maltby Food Bank during the second annual "Dancing with the Grizzlies."
The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the school auditorium, 7401 144th Place SE, Snohomish.
Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for students, or $20 for family.
