Superficiality is our downfall

SHARE: facebook Twitter icon Linkedin icon Google+ icon Email icon |  PRINTER-FRIENDLY
Yes, society is divided but the biggest problems aren't the budget or crooked politicians.
It's lack of common sense, free thinking and consistency in thought. For example, how can people be against war but support the troops? Why is the peace symbol popular but arms sales are at record highs? When did charity become something selfish? Does every new law have fine print no one notices? When did greed become legal? And can I really find a soulmate Internet dating?
Discussing the dark truth about ourselves has been replaced by, "I don't want to think about it, it's too depressing." "Let's have a good time" is society's mantra while cops and sheriffs beat or shoot whomever they want. I'm so tired of hearing things like "it is what it is," or "deal with it," which are excuses for poor behavior, unaccountability and lack of compassion.
We believe what we hear instead of thinking for ourselves. We believe everything from apes caused AIDs to being duped over weapons of mass destruction. We talk about fighting cancer but no one discusses why cancer is prevalent. We live in a society of fear but no one realizes terrorism originates from our own country's fault as the global corruption leader. We honor people of uniform more than doctors and teachers while the military industrial complex slowly kills our country. We observe injustice daily but do nothing as society continues to promote intense violence.
I don't ask myself what's next but whatever it is, you won't see it coming.
