Woman found dead near Machias may be hit-and-run victim

MACHIAS A woman found dead in the Machias area Tuesday night is believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run collision.
The body was spotted about 5:15 p.m. along Dubuque Road, south of Lake Stevens, Snohomish County sheriffs spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
Detectives as of late Tuesday night had identified a vehicle believed to be involved, Ireton said. They also interviewed someone in connection with the case.
No additional details were available about the victim.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office is expected to determine how she died.
