Convict who killed six transferred to Monroe prison

MONROE -- A man who killed six people in a 2008 shooting rampage in Skagit County, including a sheriff's deputy, has been transferred from Western State Hospital to a unit of a state prison at Monroe for mentally ill inmates.
The Department of Corrections said Isaac Zamora was moved Wednesday to the special offender unit at the Monroe Correctional Complex.
Spokesman Chad Lewis said the unit has 360 inmates, but Zamora technically remains a state patient.
Zamora pleaded guilty to four murder charges and not guilty by reason of insanity to two. He was sent to the Lakewood hospital as part of a plea bargain.
The Department of Social and Health Services said Zamora was removed under a 2010 law that allows the transfer of patients who pose a safety risk.
