50 years ago (1962)
The end of a pleasant journey was coming Jan. 1 for Thornton A. Sullivan, who on that date was stepping down as a member and chairman of the Everett Park Board. It was 34 years earlier that Jack, as he was known to his many friends, was named to the board. For 25 of those years he served as chairman guiding the board to bring park dreams to fruition.
Jane McKee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McKee of 2503 6th Street, took part in the Sports O’Rama contest last week. Directing the annual YMCA event was Alma Woods, girls gymnasium director.
25 years ago (1987)
The Greater Riverside Neighborhood Organization was to hear Everett City Councilman Bob Overstreet at a 7 p.m. meeting at Garfield Elementary School, 23rd and Pine streets. Overstreet would speak on neighborhoods.
The Providence Health Club had severed its corporate ties with Everett’s Providence Hospital, forming a non-profit corporation to operate the 400-member organization. Peter Knehr, an Everett businessman, was the new president of the organization. He said the quality of the programs would not be sacrificed.
