Seattle has Everett's number right now. The Tips outshot the T-birds 34-25, and that doesn't count the large number of times Everett missed the net. However, Seattle was more clinical, and T-birds goalie Brandon Glover played a strong game.
Seattle is now 4-0 against Everett this season, and the T-birds are really on a roll. Seattle has won four straight, including impressive victories over Western Conference heavyweights Kamloops and Kelowna. As a result, the T-birds are pulling away from Everett in the standings. I get the feeling that if the Tips are to make it 10-for-10 in making the playoffs, it'll have to be at the expense of someone else this time around.
Everett lost winger Carson Stadnyk to a major penalty and game misconduct late in the second period. The penalty was announced as a major for "charging the goaltender," which is one I've never heard of before.
Penalties in general hurt the Tips tonight as Seattle had five of the game's first six power plays, including the five-minute major (though the major was largely negated by two Seattle penalties taken during the power play). The T-birds didn't score on any of those power plays, but the Tips expended a lot of energy early on while on the kill.
Speaking of penalties, were Tips defenseman Ben Betker and T-birds winger Connor Honey competing to see who could take the most minors? Betker had four and Honey had three.
Seattle took control by scoring twice in 14 seconds, goals by Seth Swenson and Mitch Elliot midway through the second period giving the T-birds a commanding 3-0 lead.
First star: Glover. 33 saves. Excellent performance, 6.7 seconds away from his first shutout of the season.
Second star: Swenson. One goal. A well-taken goal, played physical.
Third star: Ryan Harrison, Everett. No points, but in his first game back from a knee injury he created chances and delivered big hits.
The Herald's honorable mention: Roberts Lipsbergs, Seattle. One goal and one assist, has scored in 10 of Seattle's past 11 games.
Seattle 5, Everett 1
