Prep girls basketball: Glacier Peak 36, Snohomish 32

SNOHOMISH — Led by the play of junior Nicole Fausey, Glacier Peak defeated Snohomish 36-32 in a defensive battle that marked the first girls varsity basketball game between the two Snohomish schools.

The main attraction of the night was the matchup of Fausey and Panthers freshman forward Madeline Smith.

“Both girls (Fausey and Smith) battled,” GP head coach Brian Hill said. “They did a great job of battling on both ends of the court. I mean both of these girls can score 20 points on any given night.”

Smith led the Panthers with 14 points. Fausey’s 12 points paced Glacier Peak.

With the Grizzlies leading 29-19 going into the fourth quarter, Snohomish ran plays to Smith that led to several easy buckets, cutting the Glacier Peak lead to six with four minutes to play. But the Grizzly defense stiffened and held on for the win.

“We hope to have this game every year,” Hill said. “It’s a good celebration of the town of Snohomish between two schools that are very competitive.”
