ST. ANTHONY, Idaho -- A Rexburg man convicted of aggravated battery for shooting a man then fleeing police for four days is headed to prison.

Jerrod Hillman, 34, was sentenced Tuesday to at least 10 years in prison, though the sentence could be stretched another 15 years.

Hillman, a registered sex offender, shot his friend Monte Sommer in the leg while they were in Island Park in August. Hillman then eluded police for four days in the area before being found hiding in a rental cabin. Officers used a Taser to subdue Hillman, who was armed inside the cabin.

Since the Aug. 20 shooting, Sommer has undergone six surgeries and faces at least two more.
