Reading the quotes in Larry Simoneaux's column Monday morning, ("Trying to find some wisdom from those who govern") it occurred to me that we, the electorate, bear a good deal of the responsibility for the piteous results produced by legislators at every level of government. You see, we keep sending the same posturing, promising-everything, I'm-fighting- for-you political bigots back to office year after year after year. The only thing most of them seem interested in is building a base so that they can run for an even higher office.
Legislators at every level seem hell bent on enlarging the portion of the population who depend upon government largesse and "wisdom" for their existence and well-being. We would do well to heed the words of Thomas Jefferson because we are well down the road toward accomplishing exactly what he feared. We are mortgaging our future under the guise of government taking care of us. We are responsible for "us"!
