NEW YORK -- Braylon Edwards is back with the New York Jets -- a week after bashing them.
The veteran wide receiver was awarded to New York off waivers from Seattle on Tuesday as the Jets try to bolster their injured receiving corps with a familiar face. Edwards, waived by Seattle on Monday, developed a good rapport with QB Mark Sanchez in helping New York to consecutive trips to the AFC title game in 2009 and 2010.
Edwards reiterated his feelings for Sanchez last week when he took to Twitter and criticized the Jets organization.
With coach Rex Ryan contemplating whether Sanchez would remain the starting quarterback or be replaced by third-stringer Greg McElroy, Edwards wrote on Twitter last Tuesday that people shouldn't blame Sanchez.
"I played there," he wrote. "Blame the idiots calling shots. Mark is a beast and will (prove) it when given a proper chance."
Edwards was released Monday from the Seahawks' injury-reserve list after less than one unproductive season in Seattle. He had just eight catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in 10 games after signing a one-year deal in July.
Bears place Gould on IR, sign Mare
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould will miss the remainder of the season after injuring his left calf.
The Bears placed Gould on injured-reserve and signed veteran kicker Olindo Mare to a one-year contract.
Gould, who ranks among the most accurate kickers in league history, strained his left calf in warm-ups before Sunday's loss at Minnesota, and punter Adam Podlesh handled kickoffs in his place. Gould kicked the extra point after both of Chicago's touchdowns and tried an onside kick late in the game.
Memorial for Brown held
DALLAS -- The Dallas Cowboys paid tribute to Jerry Brown at a private memorial on Tuesday that included Josh Brent, the player charged with intoxication manslaughter in the one-car accident that killed his teammate.
Brent arrived earlier than most in a van with several other people and hugged an unidentified woman before walking into the building.
