SHORELINE -- Disciplined free-throw shooting was key for Shorewood in a 60-50 win over Meadowdale that was a long time coming.

The Mavericks led by nine points after the first quarter, and led inside five minutes to play, but a huge 3-pointer from Kayla Bradley and perfect foul shooting from Masha Shtikel gave the Thunderbirds a potentially historic victory.

"I think this is the first time we have beat Meadowdale in at least 25 years," said Shorewood head coach Nina Lowe. "It has been a long time."

16-for-18 free-throw shooting, including 9-for-9 from Shtikel (6-for-6 in the fourth quarter), strong rebounding from Kassie Rasmussen (7 rebounds) and Shtikel (8), and clutch play from the whole team combined to vanquish the Mavericks.

"(The Thunderbirds) were huge down the stretch. It was just a great all-around team win. Everybody had a big shot throughout the game," Lowe said.

Shorewood has high hopes, with strong senior leadership that wants to beat the teams they haven't beaten yet, but they are also focusing on one game at a time.

"(They don't want) their legacy to be they never beat Shorecrest, they never beat Meadowdale. We beat Shorecrest on Saturday," Lowe said.

That being said, "We know it is just one game."

Still, Lowe wasn't afraid to enjoy the night.

"Getting over that hump was a big win for our confidence. It was huge from an excitement standpoint."
