Prep wrestling: Monroe 40, Jackson 39

MONROE — Monroe needed pins in the final two matches of its meet with Jackson to win the meet.

The Bearcats got them.

Nick DiMonda and Jake DiMaggio both pinned their opponents at 152 and 160, respectively, and the Bearcats beat Jackson in a nonleague meet.

The Timberwolves got their licks in too. Cade Christiansen took down Wyatt Smith halfway through a one-minute overtime period after ending regulation tied 6-6.

Jackson may have been a bit out of sorts due to some lineup juggling, including a few wrestlers wrestling up a weight class, according to Timberwolves head coach Sherm Iversen.

The trade-off was a full lineup and four forfeits at 106, 113, 220 and 285. Overall, the final score reflects a close-fought battle that really could have gone either way.

“We were pleased,” said Iversen. “Monroe was a classy outfit. It was a fun match. … We thought we had them for a second but they came back and got us.
