Coat drive

Helping out a great way to honor nephew

I want to send a thank you out to everyone who donated to the "Derrick Everson Memorial Coat Drive." This was the biggest coat drive ever! Ninety-one women's, 69 men's, and 43 children's coats, for a total of 203. I brought them all down to the Everett Men's and Women's shelter on Dec. 10. It was an amazing experience to be able to bring so many coats to the homeless shelters. And what a way to honor my nephew.
Once we had all of the coats inside the women's shelter one of the clients asked me "Are these all coats" I told her yes. She looked at the lady next to her and said "We are not going to be cold this winter." OK, truth be told, my heart melted.
I want to send a special thank you to Diana Hefley who wrote a wonderful story in the Everett Herald, (Nov. 13, "Grief transforms into quest to help"), and Family and Friends of Violent Crime Victims who continue to offer support to us four years after my nephew's murder.
Tonja Jones
