Wrap sweater and sequin skirt works for most parties

  • Ann Taylor

You got the party evite, but it's lacking the most crucial element: What to wear. Is it a "holiday glam" affair or a "casual cozy" gathering? A dress and spikes? Or a sweater and boots?
"People are either overdressed or not dressed at all," says fashion designer Marie France Van Damme, author of "RSVP: Simple Sophistication, Effortless Entertaining."
So here's an outfit that can go either way. Dress up the cashmere wrap cardigan with a chunky choker or top a turtleneck any day of the week.
It's $198 at Ann Taylor, but wrap sweaters are everywhere. Who's to know you didn't spring for cashmere.
Same with the sequin skirt, almost $300 at Ann Taylor, but check J. Crew or Banana Republic; it's even at Target for $24.99.
