Tracks reopen for freight trains; Amtrak, Sounder service to resume Thursday
Sounder and Amtrak passenger trains won't be able to run until Thursday morning, however, said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Norther Santa Fe Railway, which owns the rail lines. The railroad requires a 48-hour waiting period before passenger train service can resume following a slide, and another slide occurred in the Everett area at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, he said.
No one was injured in the 1:30 p.m. Monday derailment near the south end of the Port of Everett property, below Rucker Hill.
Some of the cars were knocked over onto their sides, as were many of the 11 containers they were carrying, Melonas said. Only one of the cars was salvaged, he said -- the rest will have to be scrapped and hauled away.
