Police chase on I-5 ends in crash and arrest

ARLINGTON -- A Burien man, 38, was arrested early Tuesday morning after a lengthy police pursuit that started near Smokey Point.
A Washington State Patrol trooper noticed the man driving with what sounded like the car alarm blaring about 2 a.m. along northbound I-5, just south of Smokey Point, trooper Mark Francis said.
The trooper attempted to pull the man over, but the man sped off.
The pursuit went up I-5 into Whatcom County, reaching speeds of up to 84 mph, Francis said. Troopers twice deployed spike strips on the man's vehicle during the pursuit, taking out two tires.
The man eventually lost control and crashed his vehicle, roughly 40 miles from where the pursuit started, Francis said.
No injuries were reported. The man was taken to a Whatcom County hospital to be checked over.
He was expected to be booked into Snohomish County Jail for investigation of driving under the influence of drugs, eluding police, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
There was no immediate information on whether the vehicle had been stolen.
