Prep girls basketball: Archbishop Murphy 52, Cedarcrest 50

EVERETT -- Beth Carlson recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points and adding 17 rebounds to lead Archbishop Murphy to a 52-50 win over Cedarcrest in a battle of the top two teams in the Cascade Conference.
"We had a game plan," said Cedarcrest head coach Brad Knowles. "We knew that (Carlson) and (Monti) Cooper are their top scorers. We made adjustments in the second half, but with Cooper you have to have weak-side help. We worked on it in practice, but we just didn't execute it tonight."
The all-around physical matchup between two of the top teams in the state (2A) ended with Monti Cooper stripping the ball away -- for one of her seven steals -- with 20 seconds remaining in the game from a Cedarcrest player before bringing the ball up to Madison Pollock for the lay-in and the foul. Pollock completed the three-point play to seal the victory for the Wildcats,
"You know, (Madison) had a couple big 3s in the fourth quarter," said Archbishop Murphy head coach Mark Bircher. "Those were really big for us and the one free-throw at the end was gigantic."
Pollock finished the night with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Despite the loss, The Red Wolves (3-1, 7-1) were led by Susan Kenney's 22 points and Kailyn Campbell's 19 points.
